Special Theme: Biophotonics for the Medicine of the Future
Speakers
Symposium Keynote Speaker
Eric Betzig, PhD
Nobel Laureate in Chemistry (2014)
Janelia Research Campus
Howard Hughes Medical Institute
Ashburn, Virginia
Dr. Betzig was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry (2014) for his contributions in the development of super-resolved fluorescence microscopy. Optical study of single molecules has subsequently become a widely used single-molecule experiment in chemistry, physics and biology. In 2014 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
Plenary Speaker
Chad A. Mirkin, PhD
Director of the International Institute for Nanotechnology
George B. Rathmann Professor of Chemistry
Northwestern University
Evanston, Illinois
Dr. Mirkin has pioneered the use of biomolecules as synthons in materials science and the development of nanoparticle-based biodiagnostics. Many of the concepts and materials developed within his laboratories are now the basis for commercial detection and lithography systems.
