The FIP SSOC goal is to assist with tasks associated with the FIP seminars and to divide responsibilities among a graduate student committee.

Khang Hoang
Khang Hoang is a third-year Ph.D. student in Biomedical Engineering at Duke University. His research focuses on integrating nucleic acid-based diagnostics and therapeutics with plasmonic nanomaterials to advance precision cancer theranostics.

Taylor Thorsen
Taylor Thorsen is a third-year chemistry Ph.D. student in Dr. Tuan Vo-Dinh's lab. Her current research is aimed at developing hybrid gold nanomaterials for applications within SERS chemical sensing and point-of-care diagnostics. Outside of lab, she serves as an outreach co-chair and social media co-chair for the Duke Graduate Colleagues in Chemistry (GCC) organization.

Tyler Vasse
Tyler Vasse is a 3rd year PhD candidate in Dr. Tuan Vo-Dinh’s lab. His work involves developing sensitive and point-of-care biosensors for medical diagnostics aimed at improving early and accurate disease detection. He also serves as a member of the Fitzpatrick Institute for Photonics Seminar Student Organization Committee (SSOC).

Joseph Yang
Joseph Jaehyun Yang is a third-year BME Ph.D student in Dr. Junjie Yao’s Photoacoustic Imaging Lab. Joseph’s research explores the use of light-based modalities for simultaneous imaging and treatment of deep vein thrombosis. Outside of the lab, Joseph regularly enjoys reading and discussing fiction novels, geopolitics, and history, and also plays various strategy and board games.
