The Duke FIP’s AI + Photonics Program aims to further develop, enhance and leverage the rapidly evolving landscape of machine learning, deep learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods within the area of photonics. As such computational methods continue to rapidly evolve, the field of photonics has a unique opportunity to thrive with their ability to unlock unique scientific opportunities. Researchers from across the university and medical school currently develop photonic systems with AI software and apply AI techniques to process photonic data. The AI + Photonics Program aims to support and further expand the above efforts within a community of shared interests.
Relevant AI + Photonics efforts within Duke include methods to enhance the analysis of optical photonic data (e.g., images, video, spectroscopy, and other optical measurements), methods to apply AI for scientific discovery (e.g., of new photonic materials, structures and biochemical interactions), and methods to use AI methods to enhance scientific and medical decision-making. As new findings and methods at the intersection of AI + Photonics continue to emerge, this Program aims to establish interdisciplinary connections that can benefit the Duke community’s associated research efforts and its connections to other laboratories and industries.
